Rune Hurtig (1938 - 2008) was a prominent Swedish painter, draftsman, and sculptor who dedicated his artistic life to documenting the rapid architectural and industrial shifts of his hometown, Uddevalla. Working across oil, oil pastels, and lithography, Hurtig captured everything from the heavy industrial landscape of local shipyards to buildings scheduled for demolition. In his final years, following the massive multi-year physical effort of documenting the Uddevalla Bridge construction outdoors, Hurtig's health began to decline. During this period, he scaled back on heavy industrial field paintings and shifted toward smaller, studio-bound works—including floral studies. Lilacs was one of his final completed paintings before his passing. The Bohusläns museum holds a significant collection of his artwork.
